Back in 2020, our committee facilitated the design and building of Melrose’s first-ever parklets. Rather than purchasing off-the-shelf fencing and barricades, we worked with a local architect to create a “modular” parklet design, and then we put out a call for volunteers to help build the things. The community responded in a big way! Multiple parklets were built, which the DPW has been kindly maintaining and installing annually in our commercial districts ever since.
You may have noticed that this year, only one parklet has been installed, outside of the downtown crosswalk between CVS and Starbucks/Tenoch. This is because a number of the modules, which are disassembled and reassembled each year, need some repair and sprucing up.
So, since Melrose’s parklets truly are community-built, we are once again reaching out to YOU, the residents, to help make minor repairs to the components! The city will have a DPW tradesperson on hand, as well as all the materials and fasteners needed. Grab your tools and your elbow grease and please sign up on the form below!
