SUMMARY:Melrose NetZero Open House #1 (2nd Session)
DESCRIPTION:CITY EVENT DETAILS \nWant to fight climate change\, right here in Melrose? Here’s how:\nWe need your input as we craft our plan to reach net 0 emissions by 2050\n\nThe City of Melrose is offering another opportunity for community input on proposed actions in the draft Net Zero Action Plan. In the absence of being able to hold in-person forums\, we created an Online Open House that will be open for participation on your own time and at your own pace for a couple weeks. \nJoin the Net Zero Online Open House at https://mapc.ma/melrosenetzero. We are also holding two 45-minute virtual information sessions on Tuesday\, December 8\, at 12 noon and on Thursday\, December 10 at 7:30 PM. The links to those virtual meetings are posted under Remote Meetings from the main page of the City website: https://www.cityofmelrose.org/remote-meetings. \n“Facing global climate change can be daunting\, but our Net Zero Action Plan is a great opportunity to act locally as we think globally. There are definite steps we can take here in our community and I hope all residents take the time to learn more about this exciting opportunity\,” Mayor Paul Brodeur said. \nIn 2016\, the City adopted a goal to achieve net zero by 2050. How will we get there and what do we need to do to reach that goal? The Net Zero Action Plan\, which will provide a roadmap to this goal\, has been under development by City staff\, the Melrose Energy Commission volunteers\, and our consultant\, the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC). \nNow we want to hear from the Melrose community on the roadmap to achieve our shared net zero goal by “attending” the Online Open House at any time before December 17th. This self-paced\, interactive online event will give you the opportunity to learn more about the primary sources of greenhouse gas pollution in Melrose and provide feedback on actions being considered to reduce that pollution to net zero by 2050. \nThis project is supported by a Planning Assistance Grant from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs\, as well as matching funds and technical support from MAPC. The project will come to a close by June 2021 with the release of the plan. \nFor more information about Melrose’s Net Zero Action Plan\, please contact Martha Grover\, Sustainability Manager\, at mgrover@cityofmelrose.org or 781-979-4195.

SUMMARY:Hoover School "Complete Streets" Public Forum
DESCRIPTION:The City of Melrose recently received a 400K “Complete Streets” grant to improve safe streets access to the Hoover School. Many of the routes leading to Hoover lack sidewalks\, and as a result\, the majority of students who live within a half-mile of school are driven there in an automobile. This meeting will be an important public forum to allow residents to express their desires about the best ways to improve walking and biking access to Hoover. \nRead more about the grant here.
