SUMMARY:Bike to the Sea Day Ride 2023
DESCRIPTION:See below details from our friends at Bike to the Sea. \nA group will be leaving from the Melrose YMCA at 8am to head down to Malden to join in on the fun! Don’t miss it! \n  \nRide Details\nOur annual Bike to the Sea Day ride from Everett\, through Malden\, Revere\, Saugus\, and Lynn to Nahant Beach is our all-ages party on wheels\, on a route almost entirely on the paved Northern Strand Trail separated from roads! See the current status of the trail. \nThis has consistently been our biggest event of the year! \n8am-registration/9am-ride start \n  \nRoute & Length: The ride begins at the Madeline English School. There will be 2 route options for each participant to choose from. The regular ride going all the way to the beach and back will be ~19.1 miles round trip\, and includes both off-road and on-road riding. The on-road segment in Lynn will have a police detail escorting riders. The shorter ride will be ~12.8 miles round trip\, will be fully on the trail\, and will turn around before the beach. Minimum age for riders is 8 years old\, unless on a tag-along\, trailer\, or bike seat.

DESCRIPTION:Save the Date! Our friends at The Loop are throwing the city’s first-ever KIDS BIKE FEST! Featuring obstacles\, bike rides\, music\, food\, and more! \nThis event will give kids the opportunity to explore their community on two wheels and participate in family-friendly\, non-competitive riding. This event helps to build riding skills while having fun. The whole family and community can celebrate after with food\, music & more. \nEvent Features: \nThere will be two different event categories\, and we encourage all kids— regardless of their size and ability — to join in. \n\nBalance Bike & Scooter Events – Short ride on the Melrose High School (H.S.) Athletic Complex paths with optional obstacle course.\nKids Pedal Event led by Bike to the Sea – A few loops around the Melrose H.S. paths with obstacle courses. This event is best for kids who can confidently ride a pedal bike on their own\, and are between the ages of 3-10. The obstacle courses will have optional ramps\, noodle tunnels and more!\n\nOther event features include: \n\n9am coffee at registration sponsored by Atomic Coffee\n9:30-10:30 rides\n10:30 Music by Matt Heaton\n10:30am-12:30pm La Qchara offering make your own tacos and rice bowls – vegan\, vegetarian and GF available\nHelmet decorating & coloring\nCargo ebike test rides + free bike valet organized by the Melrose Pedestrian & Bicyclist Committee\n\nThe goal of this event is to inspire families from Melrose\, Malden\, Wakefield\, and the surrounding communities to bike and roll more\, to ultimately get #morekidsonbikes. \n(Steady morning rain will reschedule the event to Sunday\, June 4th.) \nMinors must be accompanied by an adult. Helmets are required. Show your kids event registration to receive 10% off a helmet purchase at The Ride Cafe before the event. \n  \nThe Ride Cafe is a bike repair & family travel shop. We provide repair\, rentals and retail with coffee and more. We want to help make your trips fun and easy\, whether near or far\, while fostering bike and transit culture. The Ride Cafe is a proud member of The Loop – a collective of three small businesses who are mom-owned\, local to Melrose\, MA\, and sustainability-focused.

SUMMARY:Boston Bike to Work Day 2023
DESCRIPTION:Even if you don’t work downtown\, we’d love to have you join us on Friday\, May 19th\, for one of our favorite events of the year! We depart from the Melrose YMCA (Main Street) at 7am\, head to Malden\, connect to the North Strand\, and then meet up in Everett with a group from East Boston to finish our ride into downtown Boston! The City of Boston puts on a festival with free breakfast and coffee for riders. \nGenerally\, a group of folks will stay downtown\, with other riders choosing either to head back to Melrose. DESCRIPTION:Open Streets Event Alert! \nFrom the Mayor’s office: \n  \nThe family-friendly event\, initiated by the Melrose Human Rights Commission and the Mayor’s DEI Advisory Task Force\, is centered around community re-unification and will feature local artists\, food\, and free Salsa and community dance lessons to bring neighbors together by Melrose resident Jen Earls\, founder of Dance for Humanity. \nMayor Paul Brodeur and Melrose Human Rights Commissioner and Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion (DEI) Advisory Task Force Chair Joseph Phillips invite residents to join them for an afternoon of music and dancing at the first-ever Melrose Dance for Community event taking place this Saturday\, October 8\, from 2 p.m.—5 p.m. in front of City Hall on Essex St. Food will be available for purchase during the event. \nThe event provides an opportunity for community members to reunite over good music\, good food\, poetry\, art\, and free salsa and community dance lessons taught by Melrose resident Jen Earls. Earls is the founder of Dance for Humanity\, an organization based around community-building through dance\, and is excited to bring to Melrose her mission of helping people connect with themselves\, each other and the land for greater health\, happiness and wellbeing. \n“Over the last few years\, the global pandemic has taken so much of our attention. It’s time we shift our focus from the pandemic back to each other on a local level\,” said Mayor Brodeur. “Strengthening our community is key to rebuilding Melrose. To do that\, we can start by bringing everyone together for an afternoon of fun. I am grateful to the Human Rights Commission\, as well as Joe Phillips\, Chair of the Melrose DEI Advisory Task Force for his commitment to the Melrose community and for my staff for helping make this event possible.” \n“We recognize the importance of togetherness\, especially after the past few years that we’ve had and the political and pandemic environment we’ve been in that has to some degree divided us within our own communities\,” said Phillips. ” It would be great for the city to come together as one community and celebrate with one another.” \n“Come out and dance with us! Enjoy local art\, food\, music and re-connecting with friends and neighbors. No dance experience needed. All ages and levels welcome! My dance lessons are designed to be a fun\, unifying experience to bring us together in a special way.
